On 26th October 2010, some students from Rantya high school. Were taken to Kano International Airport, taking a flight from Kano – Cairo in Egypt. With just 270,000naira, the students were taken to Egypt.
The drive from Jos –Kano was about 4 hours (including hold up) and funny enough all the participants were hostel students. Around 7:00 in the evening we reached kano, and we went to Alliance Française Kano, by 10:25p.m we went to the airport and by 11:57p.m we left Nigeria for Egypt. Our travel agency “first travels” already got our luggage we got to Cairo around 3:46a.m and drove to our first hotel “Victoria Hotel Cairo” we then slept all through till 12:30p.m.
Our first guide escorted us to the “Pyramids of Gaza" were we some great Egyptian pharaohs were buried, their tombs might have been raided by tomb raiders (sue Lara croft) but the sarcophaguses were beautiful, the Egyptian had incredible architectural skill, because those pyramids were accurate, the hieroglyphics were a little blurry but the main stories were visible.
After the pyramids of Gaza we went to the Egyptian National Museum, there we saw the pharaohs, their, sarcophaguses their dresses, the jewelry, their costumes and spiritual items. the very famous king Ramsese iv that brought together upper and lower Egypt ,the queen hatsepsut who acted as a king ,famous Cleopatra ,Tuthmoses iv,v,vi,vii, the various statues of gods Rah, Osiris, Amun, Nabeh, the Nile god, Nerfatari and many other gods. we also saw the various items of mummification, the processes inscribed on the tomb walls and stone tablets in hieroglyphics.
After a fling morning and a hiking afternoon (looking can be tiring) we relaxed and had munch at Mc-Donald’s and then relaxed the whole day (that we had left)…we trekked out that evening to a souvenir shop to buy ‘Labne’ and glass balls .we walked our shoes off and almost got lost in the suburban streets of Cairo. We spent two more days site seeing the temples of Rah ,Amun, and Osiris.after Cairo we took a sleeping train to luxour were we entered the tombs of the kings “kings valley” and Philae temple and Kom-omboh temple, valley of the queens Cleopatra and Nerfartiti, Upper and Lower Egypt are symbolized by a lotus and a papyrus plant respectively ,the cobra for upper Egypt and the vulture for lower Egypt .
Then off we went to Aswan (Upper Egypt) the sinking temples the un finished obelisk, official tombs of engineer s (Imhotep) then to port-said to see the French colonial island of Port Fouad, the Suez Canal and the delta.
It was a fun trip THANK YOU RANTYA!!!!
